James Nottingham

James Nottingham is best known as the creator of The Learning Pit® as well as co-founder of Challenging Learning and P4C.com. He is the author of nine books and director of a team of 30 consultants, evaluators, and admin staff in six countries, including the United States. He has been a teacher’s aide and then teacher and leader in both primary and secondary schools in the UK, has toured many times with Carol Dweck and John Hattie, and will soon be working with Jo Boaler. His presentations are characterized by a rare skill for blending arresting anecdotes, hard-edged research, and practical advice into a truly compelling narrative. He is described by Skolvärlden (Swedish Teaching Union) as “one of the most talked about names in the world of school development” and was recently listed among the Future 500 – “a definitive list of the UK’s most forward thinking and creative innovators.”
