New Attendance Descriptors have been created for FY22 to enable LEAs to report students as attending or absent from remote instruction. The new descriptors replace the manual tracking and separate reporting of distance learning time that was utilized in FY21 and any LEA that is utilizing an Instructional Time Model in FY22 must report the new descriptors.
The two new descriptors are:
- In Attendance – DL: to be used when a student is participating through remote instruction as defined in an Instructional Time Model (ITM).
- Absence – DL: to be used when a student is considered absent from remote instruction as defined in an Instructional Time Model.
The descriptors should be reported for any instructional day on which a student is not scheduled to attend in-person, teacher-led instruction. For any days on which instruction is scheduled to be both in-person and remote, the new descriptors should be reported if, absent remote instruction, the portion of the day that a student is not attending in-person instruction would otherwise be reported as an absence.
Each Student Information System vendor will implement these descriptors in their proprietary systems and will train users on how to access and use the descriptors.
School Finance is in the process of creating a report that will allow LEAs to view and reconcile this new attendance data. A communication will be sent when that report is complete.
