Each year the National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education (NASDME) awards the Albert Lee Wright, Jr. Memorial Migrant Scholarship to one or more graduating migratory high school seniors who have overcome significant barriers presented by mobility, performed well academically, and provided service to their community.
Aglae Mendez, an exemplary migratory student at San Luis High School, was awarded the Al Wright Scholarship May 6th at the 2021 National Migrant Education Conference.
Migrant Education Program staff at the Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 shared with us that Aglae and her family have been active members of the community for years, continuously volunteering in Migrant Education Program activities. Aglae has participated in advanced programs since she was in the 6th grade. She is involved with the National Honor Society, Mariachi Club, Drama Club, and holds a 3.9 Grade Point Average.
