August 2022 Newsletter

Back to school is in full swing – many of you have been back for weeks, others gearing up. No matter where you are in the back-to-school cycle, we know you’re busy and time is limited. Let us help you start this year with fresh new ideas and resources for teachers, Ed Tech and IT staff.

SOLUTIONS

Student Data Privacy

The Student Data Privacy and TrustED Apps project provides public schools with expert
solutions for the evaluation of online educational resources, including how such resources protect student data.

This project benefits local education agencies as follows:

  • ADE provides local education agencies with an affiliate membership to 1EdTech Consortium, a global community where to learn about innovations and the state of standards for learning.
  • Access to the TrustED Apps dashboard with an industry-standard rubric for vetting applications for data privacy. Training provided by 1EdTech in the maximization of data standards to protect student data privacy.
  • Community support to define processes /procedures for the approval of online resources in their district.

ADE is inviting twenty local education agencies to pioneer the Student Data Privacy effort, receive an affiliate membership to 1EdTech and be part of the community that defines policies and procedures for the selection of online educational resources in their classrooms. Participating local education agencies will be asked to share their dashboards and experience with other participating schools. Depending on the outcome and feedback from this initial group, this opportunity may be open to more local education agencies in Arizona. Learn more on our website here.

Cyber Readiness Grant

Updated application for access to free cyber tools and platforms! More than 50 schools have been approved for participation this fiscal year already. There is still time to apply and receive access to cyber resources through this grant program from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security. The application has been updated to reflect the inclusion of Arizona K-12 public schools (schools who have already submitted an application do not need to do another using the updated form). Learn details about this program here.

Cooperative Purcashing Program

More than 120 districts and charters cross the state submitted an interest form regarding device and service needs for K-12 public schools. The Interest Form closed Friday, July 29, 2022.

Our goal is to design the best solution to meet Arizona K-12 public school technology needs. Our next step is to analyze the data from the submitted interest forms while we explore procurement channels that will best meet the needs of K12. Updates will be provided to schools who completed the form and in our communication channels.

Tech User of the Month

Each month ADE’s Adult Education Service unit highlights a Tech User of the Month. This is an Arizona educator sharing their techniques and practices for successful technology integration. We recommend this monthly read!

Technology Townhall

This month we shared about a new pilot program for Student Data Privacy, heard from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security about the Cyber Readiness Grant Program, and an Arizona school shared about their campus-wide success with MS Learn.

These meetings are an opportunity for K-12 IT professionals to connect, share and learn from Arizona peers. Townhalls are monthly hybrid gatherings to discuss, share information and practices, and provide feedback to ADE about options and needs.

Join us the second Monday of every month from 1:00-3:00pm, MST.

Digital Office Hours

Each week the Office of Digital Teaching and Learning (ODTL) will host Digital Office Hours. This is a great way to share ideas and needs about digital practices and space, and meet the ODTL team. Meet, mingle and learn on your schedule!

Pop in anytime from 11:00am - 1:00pm MST Thursdays (excluding holidays).
