Student-Teacher-Course Connection Overview

Student-Teacher-Course Connection

Student-Teacher-Course Connection enables schools to maintain current course names and local course codes but links those courses and codes to a common statewide course framework. Schools continue to enjoy the benefits of local control while Arizona has complete visibility across the Arizona education landscape. It is important to note, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered by schools must meet the following criteria: 1) appropriately certified CTE teacher, 2) adequate facilities, and 3) teach the approved CTE technical standards for the program. The program must be approved by the CTE department of the Arizona Department of Education. (Reference: ARS 15-782, 15-782.01).

State Course Catalogs for 2024-2025

Make sure you update your student information system (SIS) and map your district/school’s course codes to the ones in this year’s state catalog. Click on the appropriate link below to download the latest information in your preferred format, either PDF or Excel. It is incredibly important that you utilize courses that are in the 2025-2026 State Course Catalog, as it is connected to AzEDS via Student Teacher Course Connection (STC). If you submit a course that is not in the State Course Catalog, it will cause validation errors.

  • State Course Catalog with SCED Mappings (K-8) - Excel (updated 12/30/24)

Now that AzEDS is alive and well, schools and districts no longer need to upload STC data to SRM (State Report Manager) or meet submission deadlines. Once courses are mapped to the state catalog in a student information system, the information is submitted along with all the other data submitted via AzEDS.

STC Data Submission Steps

  1. Update your SIS
    • Map local course codes to the ones in the State Course Catalog.
    • Ensure ‘Educator Stakeholder’ ID is a valid ID from Teacher Input Application (TIA, previously HQT) and does not include any extra characters (sixteen (16) numeric characters only)
  2. Allow STC data to be submitted to AzEDS along with all the other data.
  3. Use AzEDS reports to verify that your STC data has 'landed' and has passed integrity.

Submitted STC data must pass various integrity checks. Click here to view the AzEDS STC Integrity Rules. Further information regarding STC data and the submission process can be found on the AzEDS site.

The STC initiative originally addressed data system requirements from the America COMPETES Act that had to be fulfilled as a condition for funding received by our state and schools through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and Title XIV of the ARRA, known as the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund (SFSF).

Designed to meet these requirements, STC links students and teachers to individual course sections. With this program, teachers have richer data to better inform key instructional decisions that affect the academic success of their students, while administrators have access to better information to enable them to more effectively support the relationship between individual student success, teachers, and courses.
