Special Education Stakeholders,Nominations are now being accepted for this year’s Arizona Secondary Transition Services Awards!On behalf of the Arizona Department of Education, Exceptional Student Services, and other partnering agencies, you are invited to submit your nominations for this year's Secondary Transition Services Awards, which will be presented at Arizona's 2023 IDEA Conference.

With the start of the 2020–2021 school year, obstacles and unique barriers may be faced by staff working with transition-aged youths. The ADE/ESS Secondary Transition Team would like to invite you to tune into the Transition Tuesdays series. These sessions are intended to share information and strategies that will support the transition planning process throughout the pandemic and beyond.

All school districts, charter schools, secure care facilities, and the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (ASDB) are required to annually administer the State Performance Plan Indicator 8 Parent Involvement Survey to parents of students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The survey opened on January 19, 2026, via ADEConnect Data Surveys and will close on May 31, 2026.

PHOENIX – In his 2026 State of Education speech, state schools chief Tom Horne told the House Education Committee that students cannot achieve academically if schools are not safe. He is asking lawmakers for more money for armed officers on campuses. He also touted the department’s ongoing work to assist schools that has resulted in impressive gains in academic scores at multiple schools statewide.
