Arizona Summative Assessments Request for Proposals
A.R.S. § 15-741 requires the State Board of Education to “adopt and implement a statewide assessment to measure pupil achievement of the state board-adopted academic standards in reading, writing, and mathematics.” The current contracts for Arizona’s statewide assessments - AASA (grades 3-8), ACT Aspire and ACT (grades 9-12), and AzSCI (grades 5, 8, and 11) - will expire with the Spring 2027 administration.
To prepare for the next phase, the Arizona State Board of Education, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Education, is initiating the process to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for future statewide assessments.
We invite you to complete a brief survey to provide input on key features of the upcoming assessment system. Your responses will inform priorities for the RFP. The survey includes a mix of demographic items, multiple-choice and ranking questions, and a few open-ended opportunities to share your ideas. It focuses primarily on Math, English Language Arts, and Science assessments used in elementary grades. Per state law, the high school summative assessment will continue to be a college readiness measure, such as the ACT or SAT.
The survey linked below asks for feedback on key aspects of the assessment system - frequency of testing, design, reporting, and potential innovations to better support students and educators. This survey is for every person who interacts with Arizona schools - students, educators, caregivers, superintendents, policymakers, principals, and more. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Please respond to the survey by Tuesday, November 25, 2025, 5:00 PM.
