Per requirements in A.R.S. 15-244, Indian Education Act, the Office of Indian Education provides technical assistance to schools and tribal nations to meet the educational needs of Native American students, including the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula and instruction that are culturally relevant and aligned to state standards, and family and community involvement in the education of Native American students.

 

Professional Learning from the Office of Indian Education:

Below, you will find professional learning opportunities, such as webinars and recordings, online courses, and upcoming in-person events available to all educators in Arizona. OIE has gathered several free and accessible educational resources from tribal, local, state, and national organizations that can be used in classrooms and schools serving Native American students.

 

2025 Indigenous STEM Project

We are excited to announce our 2nd annual Indigenous STEM Project, presented by the Office of Indian Education and Arizona Science Center! 

The Indigenous STEM Project is a series of 3 events designed to elevate and affirm Indigenous knowledge and STEM literature within PreK-12 learning environments. All events are FREE and open to educators and community members from across the state of Arizona! These events aim to support more culturally responsive educational experiences for Native American students in Arizona's schools.  

For the virtual events, registation is required. After you register with your email, you will receive a unique Zoom meeting link. Please remember to save the email and add it to your calendar at the designated meeting time. We will email you reminders as the event date nears.

1. Indigenous STEM Educators Showcase

Description: A virtual panel featuring 3 Indigenous serving educators from Arizona who will discuss their experiences with integrating culturally relevant practices and Indigenous perspectives into their curriculum and instruction. We are happy to be joined by teachers in the following specialties: computer science, STEAM, and math and computer animation.

2. Indigenous STEM Symposium

Description:

A professional learning opportunity for PreK-12 educators from across Arizona. A new, interactive component has been added on the evening of April 27, 2025. PreK-12 educators and/or staff who work on tribal lands are strongly encouraged to attend. FREE in-person event. Review event registration and agenda at a glance below.

Sunday, April 27 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.

Join us for facilitated activites, dinner, and a keynote address featuring Dr. Karletta Chief, Professor and Extension Specialist, Environmental Science - University of Arizona.

Monday, April 28, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.  

Attendees will network with STEM organizations and programs at the resource fair and attend breakout sessions. Educators will receive free STEM supplies for their classrooms!

Travel Reimbursements: Limited travel reimbursements are available to those who qualify. After completing the APLD registration, please complete the "Get to Know Me" survey, where we are collecting travel reimbursement inquiries. Once reviewed, OIE staff will communicate the final reimbursement details with you. Those who are approved must complete additional ADE reimbursement forms in order to process reimbursements.
