Educational Equity

Educational equity means "that all students are provided with the resources they need to produce comparably positive academic and social outcomes regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, language, religion, nationality, immigration status, cognitive or physical ability,  family background or structure, income, or zip code." (ADE Equity Framework)

  1. All students have the right to quality instruction
  • All students have the right to read! Therefore, the right to have access to a highly trained, knowledgeable teacher.
  • On a scale of 1-10, how much does the application of science matter to you in other fields? Medicine, architecture, aviation? Some might say a 12! Why would we expect any less when it comes to reading instruction?
  • We have a moral responsibility to prepare all students to lead a literate life.

  • Reading affects all other academic achievement and is associated with social, emotional, economic, and physical health.
  • The Matthew Effect kicks in with vengeance if grades K-1 teachers do not teach reading effectively.
