Educational Equity

Educational equity means that all students have the right to quality instruction and all teachers have the right to quality training.

1. All students have the right to quality instruction  

• All students have the right to read! Therefore, the right to have access to a highly trained, knowledgeable teacher.
• On a scale of 1-10, how much does the application of science matter to you in other fields? Medicine, architecture, aviation? Some might say a 12! Why would we expect any less when it comes to reading instruction? 
• We have a moral responsibility to prepare all students to lead a literate life. 
  
• Reading affects all other academic achievement.
• The Matthew Effect kicks in with vengeance if grades K-1 teachers do not teach reading effectively.

2. All teachers have the right to quality training

• Instructional equity is the key to teaching equity.
• You can’t have knowledgeable students without knowledgeable teachers.
