Module 3 Topic 3
We are aware of the data gaps regarding our military-connected students. Here are a few things to remember when collecting and reporting data on military-connected students:
- Accurate data benefits your school's Federal Impact Aid.
- A military-connected student is defined as one with a parent who is a member of the Armed Forces on active duty, including the National Guard and Reserve forces.
- Military status is self-reported. It may take conversations with new enrollees and their parents to ensure the military connection is selected on the registration form.
- The Compact covers students in Kindergarten through grade 12. It does not cover PreK students.
- PreK students can still be counted in your numbers of military-connected students.
- Currently, the Compact only covers National Guard and Reservists on Title 10 orders.
- Children of National Guard and Reservist parents on Title 5 or 32 orders can still be counted in your numbers of military-connected students.
What is the Federal Impact Aid Program?
The Federal Impact Aid Program provides reimbursement to school districts with concentrations of children residing on military installations or other federal properties and, to a lesser extent, concentrations of children who have parents in the uniformed serves or employed on federal properties who do not live on military installations. The program was set up to allow districts to receive reimbursement for the education of children who reside on military installations or have a parent who works on military/federal property.
Remember
The AZPSS Annual Report requires the POC to track the number of military-connected students on their campus, the number participating in the peer mentorship program, and the number of student mentors.
