Western Arizona

It is known as one of the sunniest places on Earth, resulting in some of the best agricultural fields, which produce up to 90% of the nation's lettuce and ship nearly 15 million pounds of dates worldwide.

Marine Corps Air Station—Yuma, which was originally a US Army Airfield in 1942, has a rich and varied history. Deactivated after WWII, it changed hands to the Air Force and, finally, to the US Navy. Despite these transitions, it has remained a steadfast institution, now serving as the primary training center for Marine aviation tactical fighter squadrons.

School Liaison Program Manager, can assist with transition support, including school selection, credit transfer, and other education-related issues for students attending a K-12 school in Western Arizona.

The US Army Corps of Engineers opened the Yuma Test Branch near the present site in 1943. It was considered the best overall spot in the country to train soldiers and test equipment. In 1944, rice and hemp plants were grown next to the Colorado River to create realistic conditions for testing troops and vehicle movements in preparation for the expected invasion of Japan. It was renamed to its current name in 1963. In 1971 and subsequent years, it became a Major Range and Test Facility. SLO/SLPM services are handle by MCAS - Yuma.

Please contact MCAS-Yuma for your child's educational needs.
