  • Post-Secondary Teaching: Experience teaching courses relevant to the certification subject area for the last two consecutive years, and for a total of at least three years, at one or more regionally or nationally accredited post-secondary institutions.
    • A letter, on official letterhead and signed by a department chair, dean, or personnel director, verifying the subject area(s) taught and dates of employment must be submitted with your application.
  • Work Experience: Verification of five (5) years of work experience in the certification subject area.  One of the following must be submitted directly by the verifying authority directly to the online Contact Form.
    • Option 1: District/Charter School Letter.  A letter, on official letterhead, from a superintendent or personnel director verifying that the applicant demonstrates knowledge or skill in the certification subject area that is comparable to holding a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctoral degree in that subject area through five years of work experience, as identified in a resume.
    • Option 2: District/Charter/Private School Letter: A letter, on official letterhead, from a public or private school superintendent or personnel director verifying that the applicant has five years of experience teaching the most advanced academic standards, or comparable out-of-state standards, in the certification subject area; or
    • Option 3: Supervisor Letter.  If you are unable to obtain a letter from a superintendent or personnel director as described above, you may have a current or former supervisor submit a letter (on official letterhead) verifying your work experience for consideration under this option.  The Department will review the letter and determine if you have five years of work experience that demonstrates knowledge or skill that is comparable to holding a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in the certification subject area.
